Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at eastern Zhabusagaxiu Mt., Maoniu Mt. in the Qaidam basin, Qinghai. It was named by the No. 623 Geological Survey Team of Qinghai Bureau of Geology in 1959.


Lithology and Thickness

Siltstone and Limestone. Sandy shale and limestone intercalated with coal seams. In continuous deposition with the underlying Hurleg Fm and the top is cut by a fault. Thickness 367 m. Well exposed around Shihuigou.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact (possibly) with the underlying Hurleg Fm or Keluke Fm

Upper contact

Regionally, disconformity to the middle Permian (Shuweimenke Fm)

Regional extent

Mainly distributed at Suiyan Mt., northeast of Xorkol in the middle Altun Mountains and the area south of Yingebulak, as well as Huashigou in the eastern Altun Mountains and the area southeast of Annanba

Fossils

Contains two fusulinid zones, ascending: (1) Pseudoschwagerina zone, which can be divided into the Eoparafusulina Zellia and Sphaeroschwagerina subzones; (2) Triticites paraarcticus-Quasifusulina paracompacta zone. The lower part mainly yields the coral Actinophrenitis cf. nikitonkensis var. nata-Lophocarinophyllum cf. acanthiseptatum assemblage and the brachiopod Eliva lyra-Eomarginifera pusilla assemblage.
